Master’s Program in Nutrition and Dietetics (Thesis-Based)

The thesis-based Master’s Program in Nutrition and Dietetics at Akdeniz University is offered as a single program under the Institute of Health Sciences. The language of instruction is Turkish. The program includes both compulsory and elective courses related to the field of Nutrition and Dietetics. In addition to the compulsory courses in the curriculum, students may also select courses from different programs within the Institute of Health Sciences or other institutes, in line with the guidance of their academic advisors. In order to graduate, students must complete a total of 120 ECTS credits, including a seminar and a master’s thesis.

The aim of the Master’s Program in Nutrition and Dietetics is to provide advanced education in the field of nutrition and dietetics and to train specialist dietitians who are capable of contributing to the protection, improvement, and promotion of health and quality of life for individuals and communities throughout the lifespan. The program aims to educate professionals who can ensure adequate and balanced nutrition for society; analyze public health and nutrition-related problems; develop nutrition plans and policies for their solutions; and provide individualized nutrition counseling and education by identifying the physiological, psychological, economic, and sociological factors that influence individuals’ food choices. Graduates are expected to meet international professional standards, embrace universal, scientific, and ethical values, follow current academic research, conduct multidisciplinary studies, and demonstrate advanced competencies in understanding, interpreting, discussing, and communicating knowledge within their field.

Dietitians who obtain a Master of Science degree may work in three main professional areas defined by the ICDA (International Confederation of Dietetic Associations) and the EFAD (European Federation of the Associations of Dietitians):

  • Administrative/Managerial Dietitian
  • Clinical Dietitian
  • Public Health / Community Health Dietitian
